What Breast Implant Pocket Should You Choose?

Image
Introduction Implant pocket  is the most important determinant of outcome and is described by the relationship of the implant to the pectoralis muscle on the chest.  The “pec” muscle is a flat fan-shaped chest muscle connected to the front of the chest on three sides (collar bone, outside border of the breast bone, and along the ribs near the lower part of the breast).  The muscle is not connected to the chest wall on the side toward your armpit (you can pinch the muscle between your fingers on the side) as it spans over the armpit to connect the chest to your upper arm.  Placing the implant above this muscle is called subglandular or prepectoral.  Placing the implant below the muscle is called submuscular or subpectoral, and can be further differentiated by being completely under the muscle (total submuscular), or partly under the muscle (dual-plane). When an implant is placed below the muscle, the procedure is more painful and you may need more pain medicat...

BREAST AUGMENTATION WITH BREAST LIFT FAQ’S

Image
Are there any specific risks to breast augmentation with a breast lift (augmentation mastopexy)? The short answer is yes.  An augmentation mastopexy combines two very different breast surgeries into one combined procedure which increases the complexity and thus the risk for complications.  General anesthesia is usually required for this aesthetic plastic surgery procedure. In addition to the individual risks involved with a breast augmentation and a breast lift surgery , augmentation mastopexy has a higher revision rate.  This means that there is a greater chance you may need or want a second “touch-up” surgery to improve the result.  Although only a minority of women will undergo a second revision surgery, if you were to instead separate the surgeries (for example, perform a breast lift, wait 4-6 months, and then perform a breast augmentation) you would have a 100% chance of needing two surgeries.  Also, when separating, or staging, the two procedures, ...

MALE LIPOSUCTION FAQ’S

Image
Why don't men get liposuction? This is a common theme with many cosmetic procedures. A little under half the world's population is male, yet women are the overwhelming majority of cosmetic surgery patients. Cosmetic surgery may still have a stigma associated with it for men. For many men, getting a little surgical 'help' may imply that there is a weakness or expose a vulnerability. Dr. Albright understands this discomfort that men naturally have at the plastic surgeon's office. Male Liposuction surgery is a contouring procedure and not a weight loss or fat loss procedure. But it does not need to be this way! In fact, Dr. Albright meets many men who are incredibly bothered by a few resistant pockets of fat that 'just won't go away'. They may find themselves avoiding certain clothes or social situations. After a relatively straight forward male liposuction procedure and recovery, these men can have renewed confidence and self-esteem. Just reach o...

FAT TRANSFER FAQ’S

Image
Fat transfer is particularly helpful with breast surgery. Fat transfer breast augmentation will help to use fat to add just that little bit more volume, and perhaps, forego the need for a permanent implant! It is commonly used in breast lift surgery to improve overall contour and give a touch more volume. Fat grafting is also an excellent choice in revision breast implant surgery as the fat can be injected over an existing breast implant to improve shape, feel and limit implant rippling. Come find out more today!   Is fat grafting safe in the breast? In the buttocks?   Injecting fat into the subcutaneous fat layer of the buttocks and into the breast tissue has been shown to be a safe technique, when performed correctly. There has been much media attention (for GOOD REASON!!!) on several high profile deaths caused by poorly performed fat transfer to the butt! This is why it is important to select your surgeons carefully. For injection into the breast, whether ...
